Second Sunday in Lent

Welcome and Passing of the Peace

Centering Music “Sanctuary”

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true; with thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for You.

Ringing of the Church Bell

*Call to Worship

Leader: Come, friends, and hear once again what God has done for us.

People: God has been faithful through our days.

Leader: We come at different ages and stages, different generations,

People: and we serve and worship together.

Leader: God remembers all of us, from the baby entering the world to the people living in their twilight years.

People: God keeps God’s promises, no matter how young, no matter how old we may be.

Leader: Come and open your hearts to the God who will love and care for you through your entire life.

All: We come to worship God.

*Opening Prayer (Unison)

God, as we worship you today, open our hearts to those around us. May we see your faithfulness in each age and stage of our neighbors. In this Season of Lent, may we remember the promises you made to all generations—past, present, and future. Amen.

*Hymn of Praise “We Are Dancing Sarah’s Circle” #501

Time for Youth

Shared Prayer:  The Lord’s Prayer (sins)

Leader: People of God, what is your prayer for our youth?

Congregation: Our prayer is that they grow up to be like Jesus--strong and brave, full of grace and truth! And, we pray that we will help them. Amen.

Invitation to Give and Share

Without talking back, without asking questions, let us move into God’s love. Let us go in-between with God to offer our gifts. Let us give God our thanks in our tithes and offerings.

Offertory “Ain’t That Good News” arr. by Moses Hogan (Chancel Choir)

*Doxology “We Give You But Your Own” #785

We give you but your own, what e’er the gift may be; All that we have is yours alone, we give it gratefully.

*Prayer of Dedication

God, you are the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, and all that comes in between. Today, we give thanks for those who came before and gave their gifts so that we could have mission, ministry, and a physical place to worship today. Bless the gifts that we offer to you, so we will continue to build on the foundation laid by previous generations and can serve those who follow.

Musical Reflection

Introduction to Our Time of Prayer and Silent Prayer of Confession

Words of Affirmation

God knows our names. We follow generations of those who have followed God and followed Christ. And we know the truth of the ages – the same Christ who forgave those who came before also offers us that grace and forgives us. In Jesus Christ, claim the truth of the gospel and your new name – Forgiven. Thanks be to God.

Joys and Concerns

Prayers of the People

Congregational Response “Be Still and Know” #743

Be still and know that I am God. (3x)

*Hymn of Preparation “Born from a Star” #48 from Sing! Prayer and Praise

Scripture Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16, Romans 4:13-25

Sermon “Faithfully Waiting”

*Hymn of Dismissal “The God of Abraham Praise” #24 vs. 1-3

*Shared Blessing (Unison)

God, as we prepare to leave this place, may we be more aware of those we encounter. Those who are older who offer wisdom, those who are younger who offer a new way to see things. Through it all, you are God, now and forever. As we go, may we go wrapped in the knowledge that you promised Abraham and Sarah a new future, and we are part of that future. You keep your promises throughout time. May we share those promises with the world. Amen.

*Sung Blessing “God Be With You” #809

God be with you, God be with you, God be with you till we meet again. O God be with you, God be with you, God be with you till we meet again.
